The Lenovo ThinkSystem 440-8e and 440-16e SAS/SATA 12Gb HBAs are high performance PCIe 4.0 host bus adapters for external storage connectivity in ThinkSystem servers. The adapters provide either two or four x4 external mini-SAS HD connectors to provide connectivity to external storage devices such as ThinkSystem DE Series storage and LTO9 tape backup units.
The 440 external HBAs have the following features and specifications:
PCIe 4.0 x8 host interface
PCI low profile, half-length form factor
Based on Broadcom controllers:
440-8e: Based on the Broadcom SAS3808 IOC design
440-16e: Based on the Broadcom SAS3816 IOC design
12Gbps SAS/SATA ports:
440-8e: Two Mini-SAS HD x4 (SFF-8644) connectors
440-16e: Four Mini-SAS HD x4 (SFF-8644) connectors
Non-RAID (JBOD mode) support for SAS and SATA HDDs and SSDs
Connectivity for up to 1024 external SAS or SATA drives
Up to 12 Gbps throughput per port
Supports 12, 6, or 3 Gbps SAS speeds
Supports 6 or 3 Gbps SATA speeds
Support for external storage systems and tape backup units
High performance architecture with very deep queue depth
Advanced power management support
Support for SSP, SMP, STP, and SATA protocols
End-to-End CRC with Advanced Error Reporting
Spread Spectrum Clocking for EMI reductions
Supports 512e, 512n and 4K (when available) formatted drives
